BIO
Denis Boaro, original founder and owner of Basil Seasonal Dining and Danesi Cafe Distributor. Third-generation restaurateur and hotelier. Boaro’s family have owned and / or operated in the Venetian hotel and restaurant industry for over fifty years . Since his arrival to the Untied States, Boaro has opened and managed several restaurants, eventually purchasing two of this own; Gusto Pizzeria and Pasta, and Basil Seasonal Dining.
Born and raised in Italy, Boaro transitioned straight from high school into the hospitality industry. Denis was born in San Zenone Degli Ezzelini, Italy on 26 of May of 1975. He graduated from I.P.S.A.R. Castel Franco Veneto TV, Italy in June of 1994 with a concentration in hotel operations and finance. After receiving his diploma in hospitality, Denis interned in various hotels from the north to the south of Italy. He later interned internationally in Stuttgart and Munich, Germany, Lausanne, Switzerland, Monaco, London and New Castle. After completing his rotation, Boaro returned to England and Germany for three years to to take a deeper dive in to the day to day operations and immerse himself in the culture and perfect the language.
In 1998, Denis arrived to North Hollywood where he worked as a server for Ca-Del Sole Restaurante and quickly moved up from server to Assistant Manager, and later General Manager of this location and it’s sister location Locanda Veneta in Beverly Hills. He was soon recruited by the Gerber Family to lead the execution and operations of a new development in Tucson Arizona; Saguaro Ranch. McCklintonck’s, a restaurant at the property is a South Western cuisine fine-dining restaurant with an Italian flair. Prior to his relocation to Carmel, Denis worked as Director of Operations for a short stint of a year-and-a-half at The Ranch in Anaheim. Currently, Denis spends most-of-his time overseeing the operations of his restaurant or consulting for larger-scale projects.
Wine Philosophy
Our wine selection is comprised of over fifty distinct choices of wines to complement your meal. We offer many local and organic options from wineries from the Santa Lucia Highlands, Napa Valley and Sonoma. Our wine-by-the-glass selection is seasonal and changes along with our menu offerings. Our mission is to offer our guests an ever-growing breadth of recognition labels as well a wide selection of value-oriented options; the best quality for all palates.
While we stand out for our many classic American reds, our wine list is abounding with verticals of many of the country’s most hard-to-find labels of similar characteristics from around the United States. We also maintain a small selection of half bottles and some large format bottles ranging from magnum to 6l.
At Basil, we aspire to be ahead of the trend and offer the broadest and most diverse selection possible while supporting primarily our local wineries.
Integral to the success of our wine program is the education of our person staff. We hold monthly tasting sessions with our staff that cover a broader range of topics.
