About
Basil Carmel carries forward the heritage of Basil Seasonal Dining, the Italian/Mediterranean restaurant in Carmel-by-the-Sea, into a new role: honest, hands-on reviews of home cooking gear from a chef who actually uses it.
The chef
Michele Cremonese spent years running Basil Seasonal Dining, the Italian-Mediterranean restaurant he opened in Carmel-by-the-Sea in 2010. The reviews on this site come from that practical context — what tools earn their counter space when you're cooking real food, daily, for people who care.
Editorial mission
Most product-review sites summarize someone else's list, optimized for clicks, with no real kitchen experience behind them. We're trying to do the opposite:
- Real reviews, not roundups. Each review is rebuilt from scratch, comparing actual products against criteria that matter in a working kitchen.
- Editorial independence. Affiliate revenue keeps the lights on, but it doesn't drive recommendations. See our affiliate disclosure.
- No fluff. No "I tested this for 200 hours" claims, no fake testimonials, no inflated language. Just what the gear does well, where it falls short, and who it's right for.
- No prices. Amazon prices change daily. Quoting them would mislead. Live pricing is always at Amazon — we link straight there.
How reviews are built
Each review draws on:
- Verified product specifications from Amazon listings
- Real customer feedback themes (synthesized, not quoted)
- Hands-on familiarity with the product category from restaurant work
- Editorial judgment from kitchen experience
We don't accept payment for placement, we don't get sent free product to review, and we don't tilt rankings toward higher-commission categories.
